I have a weird neighbor, so I installed cameras in my apartment. I'm not sure if I should tell her what I saw.

I have a weird neighbor. Every night, at exactly 3:33 AM, she runs up and down the stairs for 3 minutes and 33 seconds. I thought nothing of it the first night, but when I checked the clock and saw the pattern, I realized I won't be able to get back to sleep until she's finished.

I couldn't find out which apartment she lived in, but I knew it wouldn't be hard. I assumed that whatever caused her to run up and down the stairs at 3:33 AM was more important than getting a good night's sleep, so I knew she wouldn't quiet down if I talked to her about it.

To figure out if it was a problem worth escalating, I decided to set up cameras in the hallways. When I checked the footage the next night, I was shocked at what I saw.

There was no one running up and down the stairs.

I decided to keep the cameras running, thinking that maybe she had just stopped doing it for some reason. But she didn't. The next night, and the night after that, I heard the running and the cameras continued to show no one running the stairs.

As creepy as this was, it was technically possible that I was just dreaming I was hearing the footsteps. It hadn't been a big problem before I saw the footage, and I was a bit of a heavy sleeper.

I decided to keep the cameras running to see if they would pick up anything else. The next night, I set an alarm for 3:33 AM and got out of bed to watch.

I heard the running, but the cameras didn't show anything. Something was going on. Thankfully, I was now sure I wasn't dreaming.

I decided to go into the hallway, but I was going to do it in a way that I wouldn't be seen.

The cameras had been enough to figure out which floor she lived on. And I knew there were windows in one of the stairwells that overlooked the parking lot. We lived on the 3rd floor. So I went down to the 1st floor.

I stood at the window, looking outside, pretending to smoke a cigarette. And this is what I saw.

A figure. A young woman. With long hair. Running up and down the stairs. It was exactly as I had expected.

Then, I saw her face.

She looked right at me.

I froze. I had thought there was no way she could have known I was watching her, and I had made sure that my camera didn't pick up my face.

I remember telling a friend once, "If someone tells you not to do something, ignore them and do it anyway."

Not this time.

When she saw me at the window, she began running towards me.

I took off in a full sprint, not stopping or looking back until I reached my apartment. I shut and locked the door, and then ran to the cameras to see if she had followed me.

She had.

The footage showed her running to the door on my floor, but it didn't show her face. I had to know who it was.

When I saw her running towards the door, I had snuck up and opened it. A moment later, the front door opened and I saw her face.

It was my face.
