When I was a child, I was so poor I had to eat at McDonald's because it was the cheapest restaurant in town

Edit: I posted this in r/redscarepod, but I feel like people here would be interested.

I was in the 5th grade when I got my first McDonald's Happy Meal. All I knew was what was in Happy Meals: a hamburger or cheeseburger (small), fries (small), apple slices (or sometimes onion rings, or yogurt), and a toy. Now, I'd never had a burger in a restaurant before. The only McDonald's I'd ever seen was when my mother would pick up food from the drive-thru window at the McDonald's nearest the town. I was too young to realize what it meant to be picking up another cheap meal (it usually came with a small fry and a tiny milk). Instead, I'd sulk and cry on the way home, asking why we couldn't eat at the building. In the car, I'd open the paper bag they'd given us and find a plain cheeseburger, but without the paper wrapping on it. So, I still didn't know what a cheeseburger looked like in a restaurant.

I think it was because I was so excited for my Happy Meal that I didn't even eat the burger until I had finished the fries and apple slices. When I finally opened the burger box, I expected to find a cheeseburger, like the ones my mother brought home. But it wasn't. The burger was wrapped in paper, and the paper was white. I tore the paper partially open to see a beef patty and cheese and ketchup and a bun, but no paper or wrapper on the cheese. So, a cheeseburger. It was the most delicious thing I'd ever tasted. It still is. To this day, I still crave cheeseburgers from McDonald's. I don't even like the teenage girl-sized cheeseburgers from McDonald's. I still only eat the kid's cheeseburgers. I've even gotten to the point where I restart the McDonald's app before I order so many kid's cheeseburgers that I can use a free coupon. Even if I have to wait another few minutes to get my order, it's always worth it.

I am never ashamed of ordering kid's cheeseburgers from McDonald's. I never get tired of the same old cheeseburgers every day. I'm not afraid to admit that tomorrow night, I will eat at least two kid's cheeseburgers, and probably two fries, but maybe four if I get to use those coupons. Hell, I might even use two coupons for the cheeseburgers. FUCK YOU, McDonald's, for refusing to honor your own rewards! I'm going to eat all your cheap cheeseburgers, as long as I can get two free.

Edit: I eat so many kid's cheeseburgers that I have a McDonald's Gold Card. So, I still get my free cheeseburgers.
