I'm an American. I got a good paying job with an airline and now I get to travel a lot. I've been to most of Asia, Central America and South America. I'm fairly experienced with solo international travel. I've never been to the Philippines up until now, but I've dated a woman from Cebu for about 6 months now and we're starting to get serious. I had some extra days off and an international business class ticket, so I decided to take a trip to Manila.

The trip isAAD-MNL on a B777. I get to Manila at 10am and we don't have to be back in the crew room until 10am the next day. She told me her brother lives in Manila and he said he'd like to meet me. I get a hotel room at a Shang-ri-la property, which her brother said was a nice and safe hotel to stay at.

So here's my plan: Book a Grab taxi from the airport to my hotel. Go to my room. Take a nap. Meet her brother and his wife at a good restaurant. Go back to my room and sleep.

How do I NOT get kidnapped and/or murdered? I've dated Latinas and Chinese girls before but this is the first time I've dated an island girl from SE Asia. They're a different culture, right? What are the dangers here? I don't see many tourists when I'm in the airports or on the planes. Is it safe for an American to walk around? I speak zero Tagalog but everyone seems to understand English so I'm not too worried about that.

I've only been to the Manila airports but so far the people seem nice, if not a little strange. Do I need to watch out for anything?
