Reading Removal List

Our district has had a reading removal list for a couple years now. It’s not a banned book list, but rather a list of books that may not be suitable for all students, depending on maturity level, background, and parental preference.

Some books are considered to be of higher reading maturity levels (determined through reading maturity levels viaReading Horizons), and must be signed off on by the parents.

Depending on the degree of reading maturity level, students may be flat out opted out of them (parents are given a list of books and must opt in for their student to read it).

For instance, any book with sexual assault, graphic violence, or mature themes is automatically on the opt in list.

Parents can request removal from the list for their students, which means any time it is taught and the student will be placed in a separate classroom with separate work.

So, what I am looking for is a list of books that may be considered questionable for minors. All subjects and grade levels welcome.

Please include the reason it’s questionable.

For example: The Fault in Our Stars- mature themes, sexual content, death, cancer, etc.
