Google lays off tens of thousands of employees and now is trying to hire them for specific contracts.

Google lays off an unknown amount of people. Then hires them for at least 1 year for contracts in exchange for stock that is worth NOTHING. Even John L is whining about this stock problem. To further insult them they won't give them a full year contract, just a 3 month contract - which means Google can pull out of it and not pay them if they want. Meanwhile they will continue to make the same amount of income without any changes. Buy more AI companies that produce useless applications in the hopes of making money.
Honestly, if they don't watch out they will be the next Microsoft. And if they keep this greedy and anti-employee behaviour they will destroy themselves.

EDIT: It seems like the lay off has been explained (see the comment below). I don't work for google, I don't think anyone cares about my problems or that it's been 11 months since. But, it still needs to be fixed.

EDIT 2: From a friend who was an ex employee who was affected by this and now is working on a contract: "I'd love to help, but Google doesn't seem to have enough people who care about the current/contractor employees to help even the people they haven't laid off, let alone help the people they laid off. It feels like all the people who were in the positions to do anything about it have left the company and haven't been replaced. I have a great time volunteering for programs that help the contractor employees (for example, I'm in a program that helps contractors interview better for the company), but ultimately it's frustrating because I don't think it's addressing the bigger problem. I don't know if that makes sense, but I guess what I'm saying is that in order to help, you'd need to get it to the level where something would actually happen. It's not just the contractors who are having problems and I think the company knows about the problems. Honestly, I think they should use the money they're spending on advertising to help fix the problems."
