What’s the deal with anime and track and field?

I dunno I’ve seen so many anime with track and field and I find it so weird. I’ve see 2 in the last 2 months but I thought I’d seen even more than that in the past.<br><br>I’ve never played it or seen it in real life, and I don’t think anyone else in my country even gives a damn about track and field, so to me it’s kinda surprising how much it’s represented in anime.
