Is the US economy just a stock market bubble?

I’ve been listening to Patrick Cockburn talk about how the Iranian economy collapsed. He said that when things go south, the stock market crashes and all the smart money leaves the country. But it’s a time between that and when the economy collapses that is the real problem. Until that moment, people don’t really believe things are that bad and they go through their daily lives as usual. With the US, things aren’t looking bright in the long run. I think it’s obvious to most people. Maybe by the time things get really bad, the government will have some new program or have dealt with things but I don’t know. It honestly feels like the stock market is all the economy cares about and that it’s holding everything together at this point. Thoughts?

Edit: to clarify: I don’t care about the stock market. I am talking about the stock market being propped up at the expense of everyone else.
