Just joined the USMC, what would my family of 4 (4 years old, 5 years old) and I do with our guns and ammunition?

My entire family is going to boot camp very shortly. My wife and I have a couple firearms and some ammunition that we’ll be giving up once we ship out. We have:

(1) .22 bolt action rifle

(2) 9mm diamondback sidearm

(3) .308 bolt action rifle

(1) 20 gauge shotgun

Ammunition: about 500 rounds of .22lr, 500 rounds of 9mm, 500 rounds of .308, and a few dozen 20 gauge shotgun shells.

What do you think we should do with them? We live in a kid-friendly neighborhood (my wife and I each have a little one, 4 years old and 5 years old) so I don’t think we want to sell them to anybody in the neighborhood. Not sure how to go about it with people in other neighborhoods, so I thought I’d throw this out here first. Any thoughts?

Side note: our local police department has said that they will not hold them for us.

Edit: Wow, thanks so much for the good advice so far! If I can get get one person to come pick it up, I’ll likely give it to them. I think I’ll get some documentation and take some photos, and let the receiving person know exactly what they have and how much they could sell it for. Maybe I can find a friend or friend of a friend to take it. Yes, we will be receiving a stipend for our goods, so I’m not too worried about losing the monetary value of these firearms. I just want to make sure they go to responsible people.
