My brother in law thinks he’s a good hunter, but he isn’t

My brother in law is an extremely avid hunter. He goes at least 50 times a year. The problem is, the only times he ever gets anything is when he goes with more experienced hunters. When he goes alone, he never gets anything, but will still claim that he had a successful hunt because he saw animals.

As an example, he went deer hunting last year. His first 10 trips, he didn’t get anything. On his 11th trip, a very experienced hunter went with him. They bagged 2 deer. He came back from the hunt and talked about how successful the trip was. After his 11th trip, he went 5 more times on his own and didn’t bag another deer. He still claims that the 3 day hunting trip was a success because he got 2 deer. In reality, day 1 and 2 were total failures, day 3 was the only successful day.

This went on for years, with him going on at least 50 hunting trips a year. He probably has less than a 10% success rate on his solo trips, but when he goes with a more experienced hunter, he has a 100% success rate. He will still insist that the entire hunting trip was a success if at least one day is successful.

He also goes on these long diatribes about how successful the hunt was, what methods he used, and the skills he employed to bag his animal. 100% of his skills were taught to him by someone else. Anytime a hunt is successful, it’s because of the skills he learned from other hunters. Still, he will insist that it’s his own skills that led to the bagged animal.

I’m sick of him claiming he’s a good hunter when he’s not. The few times that he’s successful, it’s because of help from someone else. I wish he would just shut his mouth and admit he isn’t as good as he thinks.
