I made a post on this sub a few times ago asking advice for a specific situation

I made a post on this sub about me being a college student living in a dorm and my roommate doesn't like that I make food with an intense smell (specifically fish and cabbage). The post got some solid advice from a lot of people. I haven't completely eliminated the strong-smelling foods from my diet, but I have worked hard to make sure that I clean up after myself a lot better. I have stopped leaving leftovers in my fridge for more than a day and I don't leave dirty dishes overnight either. I always make sure to rinse off all of my shit before I put it in the trash, and I clean the microwave every time I use it. A huge thank you to all of the people that commented on the thread. It really motivated me to realize that I do have a right to eat my food, but I also realize that I can be a little bit more considerate without totally sacrificing my eating habits.

For example, last week I made a big pot of a stew that was absolutely delicious. It was made with a lot of cabbage, beef broth, and potatoes. I didn't think that the stew would have a strong smell, but I was wrong. I decided to keep the pot covered at all times and I cleaned it as fast as possible and rinsed off all of the leftovers and put them in the fridge.

I also tell my roommate a day in advance if I'm going to be making something that he might not like, and I ask him if that's okay with him ahead of time.

I usually eat lunch in my classes because I feel like I can eat whatever I want at that time, but I make sure that I don't leave the leftovers in the garbage for them to rot overnight.

Especially, I want to say thank you to one comment that really stuck with me. It was something like "I understand that college is a new 'adult world' for you and stuff, but your dorm-mate is still a child. They don't understand that you can't change your eating habits and they don't understand that you have to be considerate of other people." Full disclaimer, I don't think that my dorm-mate is a bad person, but I think that he is young and inexperienced.

Thanks again for all the advice!
