Polls really don't matter anymore. What matters is a solid game plan.

I don't need to tell you, polls are screaming that Biden is winning. But Trump won the polls before, so they don't matter. What matters is a solid game plan.

Here is the game plan. To defeat Trump, Biden must win 270 electoral votes in the Electoral College, or failing that, win 26 votes in the US Senate.

One path to 270 is to win the four blue wall states (PA, MI, WI, MN) and Arizona. Biden is up in all five by solid margins in the polls. Biden can also win 270 by winning Colorado in addition to the first three blue wall states, or by winning Nevada in addition to the first three blue wall states. Biden is also up in both of those states. Alternatively, Biden can win 270 without Arizona, and instead win NH and ME. Both of those states are more liberal than the blue wall states.

In all six of these states, Biden has a solid lead right now. The polls have been accurate since 2017, and there are no undecideds remaining this time around, so that is a game plan to win the election.

But game plans don't always work. So, in case they don't, the Democrats need a plan B.

So, the backup plan is to win 26 US Senate votes. Republicans won't let that happen. But, assuming it does, we need 26 Senators to vote for Biden. Democrats have 17 Senators from the six battleground states with solid leads for Biden. Assuming things go well for the Democrats, the Democrats will also have Senators from CA, OR, WA, NY, NJ, CT, RI, MA, DE, MD. Subtracting the 17 from the six battleground states, that is 23 Democratic Senators, more than the 26 needed to elect Biden.

The polls are screaming that Biden will win. After election day, Biden will first try to win in the Electoral College. If that doesn't work, and it might not, he will try to get 26 votes in the US Senate.

The polls are screaming that Biden will win, but the polls were equally clear in 2016 that Clinton would win. But Clinton didn't. So, there is a clear need for a plan B.
