My dad pulled out a knife at my birthday dinner

I(24M) went out to eat with my family at a different restaurant every year for my birthday to celebrate. This year was the same, I chose a slightly fancier restaurant that we don't normally eat at but was reasonably priced. We all sat down at the table and the waiter gave us menus to look over. A few minutes later the waiter was to take our order. I ordered first and then my mom. My dad started to order and the waiter messed up his order slightly, my dad was understanding and corrected the order. My brother tried ordering and the waiter got his order wrong too. My dad corrected the order for my brother again. The waiter was bugging us all through our meal, spilling food and water on us as he walked by, knocking over chairs, and taking forever to check in.

The waiter finally came out with our food. My dad's order was wrong. I don't know how he messed it up so many times but he did. My dad lost it and pulled out a knife, placing it on the table. I was horrified. My brother was trying not to laugh. My mom was trying to calm my dad down. The waiter noticed the knife and (correctly) assumed the worst. He walked out and didn't come back. I tried to ask another employee if we could get a new waiter but the manager came out and asked what was going on. I explained that the order was wrong and the waiter excused himself. I said the waiter was no longer needed but we would like to be served. The manager went off. She told us to pay our bill and leave immediately. We asked for a manager discount or something but she said "you pay full price or I call the cops." We paid and left. My mom and dad argued the whole way home about whether or not my dad should have pulled out a knife. My mom said it was scary and my dad said he could tell the waiter was about to "do something stupid." I've never seen my dad like this before.
