CMV: TikTok is worse than Instagram.

"Instagram makes you hate yourself, TikTok makes you hate everyone else."<br><br>Truth is, Instagram is an app that you can use to follow your friends, and other people that you think are interesting. The algorithm is geared towards showing you things that you like, but it shows you even more things that you've liked before. So if you want to see more pictures of Kim Kardashian, you can do that, because you've liked pictures of her in the past. You also see more pictures of your friends because you've liked their posts more than other posts. You are not shown the things that you don't like.<br> <br>The problem with TikTok is that it uses a different algorithm. Sure, you'll see videos that you have liked in the past, but it also shows you videos that are popular. Even if you don't like them. Even if you've never liked a video made by a certain person. You'll still be shown a popular video that you will watch. And then, because you watched it, you'll be shown more videos by that person, because the algorithm thinks that you liked it, when you didn't. You'll also be shown videos similar to that one, which you will also not like, because it's strictly based on the type of video, not the creator of it.<br> <br>TikTok is an app that you can use to watch random videos that may or may not be relevant to you. If you go to watch your friend's videos, then you have to manually search for them, but if you go to the homepage, you'll get videos that you may or may not have liked. So if you like a certain type of music or a certain type of dance, you'll be shown it repeatedly, even if you don't like the creators, because you liked the type of video, not the creator.<br> <br>And that's what makes TikTok worse than Instagram. <br> <br>Edit: My definition for "worse" is that it's more negative overall.<br> <br>And I do realize that this is a very subjective take that many people will disagree with, so the goal of this post is primarily to change my view, not to confirm my existing bias.<br> <br>Again, hate Instagram all you want, but I still think that TikTok is worse.
