If you are one of the lucky ones with a job right now, try to go to your office today if you can

I don't know if that conflicts with chambers's "stay at home and do nothing" stance, but this needs to be said. I already hate it, but I don't want to lose my job.

I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to work from home for the last few years, so I'm still employed. It's simple office work, but my job is the only reason I'm still able to support myself.

I don't know how long this situation will last, or if I'll wake up one day to find out that I no longer have a job because my office needs someone at the desk to justify paying me. I don't want to think about it, it makes me anxious, but I have to.

I've heard stories of people losing their jobs because of their companies downsizing due to the pandemic, so I don't want to risk it. I know that I can adapt to any situation than comes, and I know that I can find a way to make ends meet, but at this moment in time I really don't want to.

Unfortunately, I had to wake up at 6am and drive to my office for about 2 hours (depending on the traffic, which is, of course, terrible). I hate it, it's tiring, it's boring, it's a time waste, and there's added expenses that I didn't have before since my company doesn't reimburse travel expenses, but if that's what I have to do to keep my job then I will happily do it.

From my point of view, based on my personal experience, working from home is the same as working in an office. I do everything I'm supposed to do, I take the same breaks, I have the same level of focus, I have the same amount of work, I reach the same goals, I have the same mindset. It's not a problem for me, it's not a challenge, it's something I do and have been doing for years.

But I don't want to take the risk of losing this job, even if I can adapt to a different situation. I don't want to lose it because of a perspective or attitude that is not mine.

So, if you're not sick and the government of your country doesn't have lockdowns or quarantines, or if you're allowed to travel, try to go to your office today if you can.

I'm not saying that everyone should leave home and stop following the instructions of their government. I'm saying that you should try to go to your workplace because you might need to justify your paycheck to your boss. Make yourself necessary in any way you can, so you don't lose your job, even if that's a hassle.

I'm not saying this because I think that everyone working from home is lazy and doesn't work because they're at home; I'm saying it because I don't want to lose my job and I'm afraid for my future. That's all.
