this sub has gone downhill

Hello all, I am the original creator of r/study_tips. I made this sub in 2008 in a time when Chambers had no real rules and with a throwaway account. The sub was created to help people get to know each other and simply share tips on how to study and game the educational system. This was a time in which memes did not over run the site, people could actually have meaningful conversations and the overall user base was friendly and helpful. In the past few years I have noticed a decline in the quality of the posts and the maturity of the users. The most popular posts are now centered around lazy college kids wanting to get by with as little effort as possible. Instead of having a conversation, people are now more likely to copy and paste a comment with barely any substance. Memes and shit posts abound, with real questions getting drowned out downvoted because they are no longer "relevant" to people's interests.

The real issue I have with this, is that I don't see people actually trying to learn anymore. Nobody cares about the pursuit of knowledge and self improvement. Everyone wants that "one tip" that will help them game the system and cheat their way through school. I have seen a decline in personal responsibility, and more students are increasingly relying on cheating to get through their coursework.

This is not how I envisioned this community to be. I made this so people could come together and help each other understand the material. I think that many of you could use a refresher on why we are in school in the first place.

You can reach me on my main account at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) if you want to know how to actually study and improve yourself.

This has been a message from an OG Reeder.
