Has anyone ever successfully transitioned out of sales?

I’m a 33F with a degree in communications. I’ve been in sales for 7 years, and have found myself at the glass ceiling. This is the second time I’ve reached a ceiling and had to switch jobs to continue to grow. I’m currently in a manager role, with a team of 4. Essentially, I sell software to universities and colleges. I love the job and industry, but can’t continue to sell for a big tech company. My company is doing massive layoffs, it’s in the news often. Essentially, I would have to sell a ridiculous amount to move up, and it’s not possible. I’m also tired of the constant fear of layoffs, and I’m constantly trying to network so I’m prepared.

My question is, where do I go from here? Essentially, I would have to take a major pay cut if I were to leave, and I don’t know if it’s worth it. I’ve been in sales for about 7 years, and I am very good at it. I know for a fact that if I left sales, it would be close to a 50k pay cut. I’m not sure where to go from here, and would love any suggestions. I’m strong in communications, project planning, project management, and strategy. I have had a few internal opportunities where I was considered for a project management role, and was passed up on. I’m not sure what else to do at this point. Has anyone else successfully transitioned out of sales?
