No one is going to come into your life and save you

This is a message of hope, and a message of despair.

So often, we look to others for answers to our problems, something that would help us be more focused and efficient, or to cure a health problem. It’s that little app that will make us more productive, that pill that will cure us, or that talk with a friend that will tell us exactly what we need to do. But when you look at it critically, how many times has that worked for you? The answer is probably not that many. If you still talk to that friend or use that app that told you exactly what to do, that’s your own willpower, but how many times has it been a recurring problem that you needed the same advice or app or pill for? If you really knew, deep down, exactly what you need to do, what’s stopping you?

No one is going to come into your life and save you. That role is yours, and yours alone.

The way out of a dark hole is not to look constantly for people or things that will give you a ladder. It’s to start digging your way out yourself, one shovel at a time, even if you have to do it with your bare hands. And yes, you can always ask people or things (like this sub) for tools that will help you dig faster, but if you really knew what tools you need, you wouldn’t be in that hole.

There is a well-known saying that if you want something done, you should give it to a busy person. I would modify it to: if you want something done, give it to someone that it really matters to. If your health and productivity and personal growth matter to you, you’ll make it happen, no matter what. You’ll find a way. You’ll go through your day with a sense of purpose, and you’ll take decisions based on what is best for you, not what is best for a momentary pleasure or escape or quick fix.

If you have a problem, you probably already know the solution. Go do it.
