Social Media Platform Focused on Humanity

This platform has not been built so this is an idea. I'm a 19 year old college student and I work full time at a documentary film company focusing on sustainability and education. I've had this idea kind of floating around in my brain and I'm finally putting it down on paper. I'm not a computer science major so this is going to have to be a good idea for someone else to run with.<br><br>What is the problem that you are solving? <br><br>I've been learning about social media, specifically Facebook and Instagram, and their effects on society. The technology is marvelous but Twitter and Instagram are doing one thing poorly, which is their algorithms are bringing people information that they want to see not what they need to see. If you disagree with someone you can unfollow them and never see their views or opinions again. I believe this is causing a rift in American people and people all over the world. I know it's made me close-minded. On top of that we can't do anything with social media unless we are arguing with someone about politics or religion. I would like to create a platform that brings people together around humanity. <br><br>What is the solution?<br><br>I want to create a social media platform where everyone has their political views, religious views, and whatever else you want to publicly state on your profile so people know upfront where you stand on your beliefs. On your profile you can see what your friends have in common with you and what you don't have in common with them. Then when you go to the news feed instead of seeing what the algorithm thinks you want to see, you see what you need to see. One in every five posts you see will be from someone with a different perspective than you. This platform will also have a messaging system like the other platforms. If you want to message someone who you don't share any beliefs with, you will be forced to look at their profile and see their views in order to message them. This will hopefully create a space where people with different beliefs can have respectful conversations with one another. You will also be able to create groups, like Facebook groups, where people can discuss topics. <br><br>There will be both public groups and private groups. <br><br>Next there will be a feature called "Discussions" where you can post and people with different view points than you will be notified so that they can come and comment. There will be moderators to make sure that the comments are respectful. <br><br>Lastly, I want to connect businesses to people's feeds. Some businesses have great benefits to society like recycling or helping local people but most people won't see their posts unless they are following them or the algorithm shows them the post. Instead I want to have a business option where you pay a small amount of money per month and your posts will be seen by people that your business aligns with. <br><br>Some examples are people who care about recycling will see the recycling business' posts and the business will be able to see how many people it's reached, the number of people who have visited their business, and the number of people who have shared their content. <br><br>This platform will be free for users and free for businesses if they have under 5 employees. Anything over 5 employees will cost $50 a month, which is less than any other social media platform out there. <br><br>**TLDR: The goal is to create a space where people can engage with people who have different views and beliefs. I believe social media has hurt our ability to communicate with people we don't agree with. I think this will help bring people together and form a more perfect union.** <br><br>Thank you for your time and I hope someone out there can find this idea intriguing and help make it a reality.
