I'm a little late to posting, but this happened in the spring. I'm not sure what the motive was, and I have to admit that at first, I thought I screwed up and scheduled an appointment. It was in the spring, so I think it was in either April or May, I'll admit I don't remember which one, but this happened around 2PM. I had been to Costco earlier that afternoon and bought some rotisserie chicken and veggies. It was a nice day, so I decided to BBQ. I was in my backyard BBQing with my back toward the house, probably 50 feet away. I'd occasionally look back to make sure that our pup wasn't trying to get in the pool. She's a 70# lab who loves water and is too dumb to realize that the pool is full of chlorine that will irritate her eyes and make her sick.

Anyway, I was BBQing and my husband and 2 year old were inside. My husband called me on my cell and asked where I was. I asked him why and he said that a Costco employee walked into the house. I thought this was bullshit and said I was in the backyard. He told me to come check it out and I laughed and said that no, he was screwing with me. He insisted that I come check it out and then I said I was coming over. I thought my husband was screwing with me and was going to try to scare me, but I decided I'd humor him. When I walked over to the front door, I saw a man in a Costco vest. I was confused and thought that I had scheduled an appointment, but realized Costco doesn't do in home stuff so I was confused. He told me that he was doing some checklist. As he was talking, I realized that he was standing inside my house near the living room. My husband and kid were already up the stairs and my husband told me to go outside with the guy and chat it out, so that's what I did. The guy was just walking around. He walked around the side of the house and stood in our backyard near the deck. He said that he was here to do a checklist and he said that he *always* goes into the house to get a feel for the layout. I told him that I wasn't aware of this and he said that he *always* does this. I don't know how checklists work, but that sounds shady AF. He said that he'd do the checklist then leave peacefully. I said okay and he came back around to the side of the house. The front door was open, but the screen door was closed. He came back in the house and went through the dining room and kitchen and pet my dog, then went over and pet our pet chicken. Our pet chicken was in her cage and the cage was sitting on the dining room table. So, like, he pushed aside the cage a bit and pet her. It was fucking bizarre. Then, he went back out the front door and walked around the back again and stood in the backyard again on the deck. I told my husband to call the police. My husband called the police and he told them that a man was standing in our backyard. They asked for a description and my husband told them the guy was in a Costco vest. The police told my husband to stay inside and that they were on their way.

I told the guy that the police were coming and he didn't seem surprised. He said that he was just going to finish his checklist and then leave. After my husband called the police, the guy walked around to the front of the house and he passed by the front door, but he didn't go inside. Then, he walked around to the side of the house. I decided to go inside so that the police didn't mistake me for the Costco employee. I was waiting by the door and the police showed up pretty quickly. There were two police vehicles. The police came to the door and I told them what happened. They said that they couldn't find anyone in the neighborhood matching that description and then they left. I was frustrated but I didn't want to seem like a Karen.

So, Costco checklist guy, let's not meet again.
