Bugs inside kitchen appliances

Hi everyone. I had a few questions related to them being inside kitchen appliances. I’m a homeowner in central NJ, 15 miles or so outside of Princeton. We bought the house last August and it was bug free until maybe end of August/beginning of September. I did send a sample to the Rutgers extension lab and got the confirmation back - western conifer seed bugs.

We have them in the walls/ceiling and coming out of light fixtures. I have found them in the kitchen, but no other rooms. I have never seen any “collections” of them outside. I believe it’s likely that they are coming in from the attic/basement. The house built in 1998.

I’m planning on hiring a pest control company. First I want to address a couple of things on my own - for example, a couple of kitchen appliances (stand mixer, microwave) have been infested. Ironically, my stand mixer stopped working last winter. I used it last week and it works fine, the bugs were living inside. I’m talking many, many dozens. I’m wondering if the bugs somehow kill the appliances? It’s hard to imagine but my stand mixer was unused for most of last year.

Are there any preventative measures you can take for kitchen appliances? For example, putting tape around the edges/loose fit of a toaster oven door?

Second, my microwave had a bad odor and I realized that the bugs were inside the vents. How do you clean that? I used a vacuum cleaner and shook out the removable parts. Do I need to do more than that as far as cleaning? I’m not too concerned about a few stragglers - I just want to get rid of the actual stink from dead bugs. Thanks.
