What is a teacher supposed to do when a parent says this?

This week, a student of mine directed a homophobic slur at one of her peers. <br>I escorted the student to her next class and then wrote her a detention for use of profanity. <br>I wrote another student a detention being referred by another teacher for saying “I could punch you” ( no threat was made). <br>They are both female students <br><br>One of the students is the daughter of a lady who I babysit for. <br><br>The mom left me a voicemail taking issue with me disciplining her daughter when my other student directed a homophobic slur at her daughter. <br><br>What would you do in my situation? <br>I feel like I have to do what I can to protect my students who have been victims of slurs and threats. <br>I also can’t let students think that only certain behaviors are punished based on who is speaking and who is being spoken to.
