Lithuanians lost Lithuanian and mistook it for ugliness of Lithuanians

I think this is where they started to lose the whole nation. In 90s and early 2000s they began to identify Lithuanian culture with soviet history, and mistakenly thought that was a bad thing. They thought that Lithuanian people were a result of the flaws of the soviet system and country, and that the result is a bunch of lazy, uneducated, alcoholics who live in a country that looks like shit. They did not understand that soviet Lithuania was a "Lithuanian"-ness itself. When you grow up in a country that is part of a huge system, you are not a nation. They did not have Lithuanian culture or language, but they were a nation because they were a part of a country, despite everything. When they got independence, the first couple of generations thought that they could get rid of everything and become a Western European nation. But you cannot change people so easily. It is a fact that Lithuanians did not want to develop their own nation and culture, but try to be accepted by everyone else. This is why Lithuanians will be put to shame by everyone.
