**TL;DR: My boyfriend says I can't get a dog because it's not his choice but I've negotiated with him for the last 2 years and he won't budge on this. What should I do?**

I have been begging, pleading and pushing my boyfriend to let me get a dog for 2 years. He's 32 and I'm 28. We've been together 8 years and have lived together for 3. We've had two cats for the last 2 years and he says that's enough. I grew up with cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, a rat and a frog. I briefly had a dog when I was 8 but it was a stray rescue and had worms and no training and we had to rehome it. I've always wanted to have a dog. Not just now, but my whole life. As long as I can remember. I dreamed of having a dog as a child, I was willing to do chores to get one, and I've always wanted one.

My boyfriend knows this. I've always been open about my love for dogs. But he doesn't want one.

We have many discussions where he tells me I'm being selfish and unreasonable. He says we have cats and that's enough. I said "no, I want a dog. A dog is very, very different to a cat. Cats are boring to me." But he tells me I'm selfish because I have 2 cats and that's enough.

I tried to get him to sit down and discuss the issue (I've done this for 2 years). I have begged him to see things from my perspective. I've said I'd do all the dog training, that I'll come home from work early to walk it and then take extra time off work to walk it anyway, that I'd train it to be trained to retrieve anything it steals, that it won't sleep on our bed, that I'll make sure it never grows bigger than 10kg (he says dogs are too big and intrusive), etc. I've done this for 2 years and he absolutely will not budge. I'm at my wit's end. What should I do?
