Has society always been so divided?

I remember when president Obama won, the darn country came together. Everyone was super happy, celebrities were crying, etc. <br><br>Now, I don’t know if it’s social media that makes it seem worse since I was a child back then, but it seems like society is coming into two halves. The far left and the far right. <br><br>I want to know, has society always been divided like this? Even when Obama won, were there people on Chambers that were divided? Or was this division caused over the past 8-10 years?
