Hi all, I'm European, and one thing that has always fascinated me about the USA is that it was a place where people could go to escape tyranny. Actually, it's kind of funny to think that you can just leave a country and end up in a neighboring country to escape tyranny, but I'm sure there are examples.

What I am talking about is the fact that the USA geographically is placed far away from most European countries, and that it was never owned by another European country. This allowed the USA to do whatever it wanted, and allowed people to sail across the ocean to escape tyranny. From what I have learned, it seems that one of the founding principles of the USA was to be a beacon of hope for people who were treated unfairly in other parts of the world, and to give people a chance to farm their own land and work a job without having to pay rent to some nobles.

I don't think that many people realize how special that is, and how unique the USA is in its position geographically and politically.

edit: typos and grammar
