A lot of people seem to think that economics is a place where we discuss the allocation of resources. It's not. It's a place where self interested groups go to use ?science? to justify their policy. Call me an idiot for not knowing this already but I'm just entering my 20s and still learning.

I don't want to make a career in a field that's so deeply flawed. How did economics as a discipline become so BS?

The world is facing climate change, massive wealth gaps, and war yet everyone wants to talk about GDP. It's time to rethink what we care about as a society.

I thought economics was suppose to help us better understand the world and make better decisions but it's really a tool for those with a hidden agenda at play. We have the knowledge to make better decisions as a society but those with power refuse to change anything because it means they lose their grip on power.

edit:
To clarify, I don't mean everyone with a degree in economics is useless or that all economist are lying.

The issue isn't with the study of economics as a whole, it's the way in which economic knowledge is being distorted to justify policies that disproportionately help the wealthy.

It seems that the knowledge that we gain in university classrooms is being distorted once it hits the media or when people in power want to use the knowledge to justify their agenda.

I'm not saying that we should throw out all of the knowledge we've gained from the study of economics, but rather we ?should be critical of the people who try to use economics to justify the agendas of those in power.
