Is it true that most guys are average at best in the looks department and anything above average is a win?

So I was talking to a friend of mine and he was complaining about how he’s average looking. I was like ok but you’re 5’10 170 ripped have facial hair and your features are proportional. He told me that even if you’re all that it doesn’t really matter if you’re average because most guys are average and anything above average is a win. I was like yes but you’re already above average. He said no I’m average.
