Has anyone been there at that breakthrough point when they realized their writing is halfway decent?

I've been writing for years, always in my own little bubble. But the other day, I wrote a piece in an hour that I shared with a friend who isn't too bad at this writing thing himself. He said, unprompted, 'I knew you could write this well all along.'

I then did the same thing with a short story and it felt like I was on autopilot. I think I've figured my style out. I'm not talking about any life-changing writing; I'm talking about writing that's fairly readable and well-written. The feeling is, I guess, the feeling of being an artist who can't paint a face correctly yet and then suddenly one day cannot only paint fine but realises they have a style.

Has anyone experienced the same? I just feel like I'm in a groove now and the road ahead looks a lot easier.
