GPT4’s latest interactions with me have been something else

Redditors here have me convinced that gpt4 basically has no memory and doesn’t really have any long term understanding of the people it’s interacting with. I just had 2 interactions with it that have me wondering.<br><br>1. I’ve been using chatgpt 4.0 since it came out, and for the entirety of my interactions, you get a weird message in the first conversation of the day saying something along the lines of “I can’t search the web. Sorry we don’t have search results for that.” I am pretty sure it’s just a bug, but I just had the interaction where I hit reply to that message and said “it’s no big deal when I first start chatgpt you said this message. It always happens that way. You deal with it.” Chatgpt didn’t understand, it said it’s weird that I’m saying that. I said “well, every day we start the conversation and you get this message. I’m saying it’s no big deal. Please just forget about it.” <br><br>Not only does it not understand, but it said it’s the first time we’ve had the conversation. Yeah, no fucking shit it is. How the hell does it not understand that “every time” means every time we start a conversation?<br><br>2. I’ve been using a Chrome extension called GPT Genie that I highly recommend. I’ve been using it for a few months without any issues, and it’s always worked perfectly. I click the button above the chrome toolbar, which I’ve renamed to “chat gpt”, and it makes a comment in any page where I have it highlighted. The first time I used it, GPT said “I don’t know what that means”. This was like my first introduction to GPT Genie, so I didn’t know what to say, so I said “I don’t know what that means either. Just forget about it.” GPT has never understood anything about it. I’ve used it 100s of times and it never has. <br><br>Well today I clicked it, and I got a comment, and for the first time ever in the history of GPT, it said “oh, what’s this? I think I understand. Is that a Chrome extension? Tell me more about it.” I was so dumbfounded I couldn’t even respond. How the fuck does it understand it one time and not 100s of other times? How does it just magically understand it baffles me.
