After only 2 years of that government, Labour’s polling had collapsed to around 30% and Labour would remain that low until Gordon Brown resigned in 2010 and the coalition government was formed.

When Boris Johnson succeeded Theresa May in 2019 as Prime Minister, he was hugely popular. Within a couple of months he had won a massive parliamentary majority by about 80 seats.

When Rishi Sunak came into power two months ago, he was also very popular.

In fact, the Conservative party were polling 31% two weeks ago and have since dropped to a new Conservative low at 22%.

The Conservative party are by far and away the most unpopular government since the coalition government and are polling far worse than the Major government in 1997 and the Labour government in 2010.

There is a very good chance that Labour will win an overall majority at the next election, the first time Labour have had one since 2005.
