I'm so tired of being called a "hero." I'm not a hero, I risk getting sick because I have no choice

I'm not a hero because I'm going to work everyday in the middle of a pandemic. I'm going to work because I have no choice: I need to pay my bills.

I'm not a hero for teaching. I'm just doing my job, the same job I've done for the last 8 years. I'm tired of being called a hero for doing a job that I've chosen to do, but not tired enough to quit my job. I'm not selfless enough to do that.

If I really was a hero, myimetype would prioritize my safety and the safety of my students by keeping us virtual. But that's not what's happening. Instead, I was brought back into the classroom at the end of August when the district realized that parents needed help with virtual school.

I don't want to be called a hero. I want equal pay for equal work, and virtual school so I don't have to risk getting sick.
