I [28F] imposed my skin care routine on my boyfriend [28M] and now he’s mad at me. How do I make this right?

So yesterday I got a new skin care set and I was so excited about it that I did my skin care by the bedside. I had some remaining product on my hands afterward and I thought I was being thoughtful and cute by “treating” his face. I had only done this once before when he was drunk and was very open to it. This time, though, he was EXTREMELY angry. He had a massive scowl on his face and he was breathing heavily. He told me to “keep my slimy hands out of his face” then turned away from me. I don’t know what to do. He didn’t say anything else about it after that and he’s mad at me now. I really don’t understand why it upset him so much. I feel bad that I overstepped a boundary but now I feel like he owes me an explanation. What should I do?

Edit: yes we’ve been dating for several years, we live together. Yes I know personal space is important. I was just dumb and didn’t realize this would cause a problem.

Update: I apologized and he wanted to be left alone. He’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’d be happy to wait it out but I feel like this is going to blow up into a bigger issue.
