The biggest problem with AI is that (very) few people understand it

Let's face it. A vast majority of people have no idea how AI works. Most of the people talking about AI on TV and radio are wrong. Some of the people actually working on AI have no idea how it works, because it's so complex and changing so fast.

The reason we can't work out any of the problems (privacy, employment, education, bias etc) is because we don't understand how it works at a very fundamental level.

Unless we can understand how it works, we can't understand what the problems are. We can't understand why it works, and we can't understand how to use it properly.

People are merrily making use of ChatGPT, as if it's a word processor or a calculator. They don't understand that it's changing the way we communicate, because we have no idea how it works.

They think that if we just ban AI for some things, the problem will go away. They just don't understand that there is no way for us to ban AI. It's already here.

This is a very similar problem to what we have with science. Most people don't have any idea how science works, and they don't understand the difference between "science" and "technology".
