How do you get rid of electronics?

I live in the US. Every time I buy a new electronic device, I have the hardest time keeping it minimalistic because I know that tossing my old electronics into the trash dumpster is wasteful and environmentally irresponsible, but I don't know what else to do. To make things worse, I don't have a car so I have to get someone else to take me to the recycling center or an electronic store that accepts old electronics, but no one wants to do that for me. I've done a lot of research on recycling centers but I honestly can't find much information on the topic. I know the best way to deal with electronics is not to buy new ones, but it is hard to keep up with technology without upgrading, so how do you all dispose of your electronics?
