I have this English friend who recently just moved back to London after working in Singapore for 13 years. He spent the last 2 years abroad in London, and now has come back to Singapore with his Singaporean wife and baby.

When he was in London, he told me he finds it super cheap compared to Singapore, even though the internet and all statistics say that London is more expensive.

This's when it hit me that if you are used to spending and earning in SGD, London is indeed much cheaper.

Anyway, I pulled a number out of a hat and asked him how would someone spend $40,000 a year (or $3,333 a month) and still feel like they were living a relatively modest life.

He said you would need to earn $40,000 a month in London, to have the equivalent modest life.

I'm leaving Asia in a few weeks and I will be 40k a year short.
