A while back, OpenAI made a profit for the first time ever after many years of loss.

ChatGPT 4 came in 2023 with a paid subscription. This was the first time OpenAI became profitable.

ChatGPT 4 turbo was released this year, presumably to try and squeeze even more money out of their commercial model.

Now, when you try to use ChatGPT you are offered the low quality ChatGPT for business, which is basically ChatGPT with ads. Of course, the real commercial model is ChatGPT turbo.

What’s important to keep in mind here is that OpenAI is actually bleeding money even with these paid models. So you can see how they want to milk the free model, much like Google does, until it’s downgraded to a nearly useless level of quality.

I guarantee the free model is not going to be very good in a year or two. It’ll get low quality responses, being constantly dropped, and be weak in capabilities. That’s what OpenAI is actually trying to do. They want to squeeze every last bit of attention out of the free model so that they can sell you more subscriptions to their paid model.
