In 1841, a mob in Ohio attacked and burned down an abolitionist newspaper office, killing the owner, who was also the son of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.<br><br>In addition to the property damage, the owner of the newspaper, William T. Allan, was killed in the attack. Allan was the son of John Allan, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a member of the Continental Congress.<br><br>The mob attacked the newspaper office in response to Allan's outspoken views on slavery and his criticism of the institution. He was also a vocal supporter of the abolitionist cause, and his writings reflected this stance.
