I Think My Family Was Targeted By Human Traffickers Last Summer

One night last summer my husband, I and our toddler were at our hotel. We were staying here for around a month because my husband was doing work in the area and we came on vacation. <br><br>It was a nice and cheap hotel for the price. It was full board and everyone was nice. My husband was out for work, I was at the pool with my 2 year old. I left her in the playarea and went to the bar for a drink. A woman in her 30s came next to me and started talking to me, she was very friendly.<br><br>She had a daughter who was around 5, a son who was around 8, and another daughter who was maybe 11. They went to swim and she told me if I wanted to join them, I told her that my daughter was still playing in the playground. She asked: “Oh is she older?”. I told her my daughter was 2 years old and that she was taking a nap. She said something like “Oh then you don’t have to worry about her”. <br><br>I thought it was a bit of a weird thing to say but it didn’t raise any alarms. I noticed that she was asking me a lot about our stay, where we are from, how long we are staying etc. I wasn’t sure if she was being friendly or not but I tried to be polite as much as I could. When my daughter woke up, I went to the playground to get her. <br><br>The woman followed me there with her children. She introduced me to her kids and told me to introduce mine as well. She suggested that our kids play together. There was something that I couldn’t put my finger on but something about her whole demeanor made me uncomfortable. <br><br>I tried to make excuses for my daughter to play on her own. But she insisted and looked a bit annoyed when I refused. Her oldest daughter was playing with my daughter and at one point she pushed my daughter to the ground and she cried. I scolded that girl for pushing, she cried too. <br><br>The mother came to me and said she was “sorry” that her daughter pushed mine. She tried to talk to my daughter and acted like her daughter was innocent. The girl then apologized to my daughter so I apologized too. She asked if I wanted her to buy lunch for me and my daughter, I said no thanks. <br><br>But she insisted. I said I don’t want to be rude but I don’t really feel comfortable with people buying me food who I just met. She looked annoyed but then she said ok. Then she said how she was looking forward to seeing us at dinner. I didn’t say anything. <br><br>I was in the room when my husband came, I told him everything and he said maybe she was just a weird person but there was nothing wrong with that. He also said she might have been lonely and wanted to have someone to talk to. But when he heard about her saying it’s ok that my daughter is alone in the playground he agreed that something was off.<br><br>That night at dinner we couldn’t avoid seeing them. I saw her looking at us multiple times. Her kids were all acting strangely as well. At one point I left the table to go change my daughter and when I came back, the oldest daughter was sitting next to my husband and talking to him, her brother was standing behind him, the youngest girl was just sitting across the table looking at us. Their mother rushed in and told her kids to go to their table. <br><br>My husband didn’t say anything to me but I saw a very angry look on his face when that girl came to sit next to him. The rest of the night I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong. When we went back to the room, I told my husband they might be a family of thieves. He said that might be it.<br><br>But when we went to sleep I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about the way she said “then you don’t have to worry about her” and how her kids were acting strangely. The next morning my husband and I agreed that we were going to leave as soon as possible. We had already paid for a month so we stayed but we didn’t use any of the hotel facilities. <br><br>We have stayed in many hotels and met many people but this whole experience was just off. I don’t think they were a family of thieves, it was something else and I think it was very sinister. I even regretted telling her our room number. <br>We left after a month as we had planned and we didn’t have any problems with them. I hope it was just my imagination and they weren’t traffickers or something.
