What did the Germans think they were going to do once they invaded Russia?

My theory is that, the German government really had no idea what to do after they conquered Russia. They tried to fight the war against Russia as if they were fighting France or North Africa. When the Germans invaded France, they came in hard with Blitzkrieg and with the cooperation of Italy, they were able to defeat France in an easy victory. But, the Germans assumed that their previous tactics would work against Russia, which it didn’t. They successfully invaded Poland, Denmark/Norway, France, and North Africa. But, Russia was a completely different battle because of the environment, the tenacity of the Russians, and the cold. The Russians were absolutely ruthless to the Germans and they killed millions of them, and that is where the war started to turn. I genuinely think that the Germans thought they could simply invade Russia and defeat it with their previous tactics, but they were wrong.

Edit: Thank you for the replies everyone!
