Before I get a million comments asking, yes. I know this is not a political sub, so I'm not going to get into the "Why do you feel the need to own a weapon like that?" debate.

I'm not here to debate anything political. But I am here to talk about guns. Specifically, the name of one of the most popular examples out there. Now, I've seen a lot of people both online and in person spout off about how "AR" stands for "assault rifle," "automatic rifle," etc - and let me tell you, as someone who shoots those guns frequently and has done extensive research on them, this simply isn't true.

I'm sure a lot of people in this sub know that "AR" actually stands for "ArmaLite Rifle," but for those who don't, and for the people who are going to see this post and haven't heard it before, I thought I'd put this out here.

This is a pretty basic post. I'm mostly just posting here to try and build some karma so that I can mod my own sub, but I feel like this is valuable information for some non gun owners who may be browsing this sub out of curiosity.

Edit: I apologize if this seemed political, it was not my intent. I just wanted to inform people of the "AR" meaning.

Edit 2: I understand that this is an old topic. I am only 17 years old and am relatively new to Chambers and the gun community. Please bear with me as I get more comfortable and confident in this sub.

Edit 3: This post was on r/confession. I mistakenly posted it here.

Edit 4: This is a mass delete of all comments, as the post was locked and a mass amount of users asked me to delete the comments so they could recover their lost karma.
