Before i start, i feel like it's important to say that i have loved this woman for the 5 years we've been together. The events described in this story have shaken me to my core, and i am truly not sure where to go from here. She is truly the most wonderful, selfless, and inspiring person i have ever met, and these things you will read about could not be further from her true personality.

That being said, let's begin.

Sarah and I have been together for five years now. We met in college, and she was the only truly stabile relationship i have ever had. I know that i want to marry her, and i have the ring to prove it. I was planning on proposing in the next year or so, once i get a good job and stabilize my finances a little bit before we settle down and start a family.

She is the most genuinely kind, generous, and thoughtful person I've met. She volunteers her time, donates her money, and goes out of her way to help those in need. I would truly be able to write an entire book about how wonderful and inspiring she is. That is why what happened recently is so bizarre, and has left me feeling so lost.

I have always known that she talks in her sleep, but it has always been innocent. She will sometimes say my name, and when i talk to her she will ask me to cuddle or to hold her. It's truly been adorable, and has not been a problem.

However, about three months ago, it started to change. We had just moved into a new house, and the first few nights we would hear sounds. Nothing too out of the ordinary, as the house is from the 70's and is almost "mansion-esque", so it was expected that the floors would creak and that there would be settling. But Sarah's sleep talking took a dramatic leap in a darker direction.

I'm a relatively light sleeper, and one night i was awoken by her whispering in a tone i had never heard before. She said "Don't come closer...". As soon as I heard her say it, i knew she was talking in her sleep. She was breathing deeply, and it was clear she was still asleep. I reached over and gently shook her, saying "Hey, it's okay. You're safe". She snuggled into my side and slept the rest of the night.

The next few nights, she would continue to say similar things, and my gentle reassurances seemed to make it stop. I thought that was that. It was a few night of her being scared by the creaking and groaning of our house, and she would feel safe again.

Then, things took another leap.

One night, she sat up and screamed "NO!". When she sat up, she was staring directly ahead of her, and did not appear to be looking at me or even realizing I was there. I shook her a bit more forcefully than before, and she looked at me with the most terror filled eyes. She told me she had a bad dream, and that she was safe now. I believed it, and held her close as we fell back to sleep.

This went on for a few more weeks, with her occasionally waking up to telling me "No!", but also now incorporating the name "Trevor". She would mention "Trevor" about twice a week. I would try and talk to her about it, but she told me she has no idea what was going on. She was never a dreamer, so she doesn't remember any of her dreams.

One night rolls around, and it's the night that will haunt me forever.

I was awoken by her saying "Trevor, NO! I won't let you in the room!". Now at this point, I'm sort of used to her saying these things and the reassurance working, right? So i give her a little squeeze and a kiss on the forehead. I say my standard phrase of "It's OK, Sarah. You're safe. I'm here".

She sat up, and turned to me. But this time, when she looked at me, her eyes were black. I don't know how to describe it, because I thought black eyes was just something you see in the movies, but her eyes were literally black. No Iris, no white, no pupils. Just two black circles.

She looked at me, and said "You're not safe. And you're not me".

Let me tell you, i have never truly been scared in my life until then. I freaked out, and i shook her until she woke up. By the time she looked at me, her eyes were back to normal. But i still can't get over the image of those black, emotionless eyes staring at me and telling me she's not my girlfriend.

She is back to her old self. She doesn't remember anything. But i can't get over the feeling of uneasiness that i have. I don't know what's going on, but i do know that it's not her. She would never say anything like that.

I don't know where to go from here. I'm contemplating getting some sort of monitor on her, because i have a truly horrific feeling that something sinister is going to happen.

And strange as it may seem, i find myself hoping that she is possessed. Because the other option, that she is truly the person she was in that moment, is something i don't think i could ever get over.

I don't know.

What do you think could be going on? Any advice?

Also, sorry if this was a bit of a slog to get through. It's my first time posting, and I'm pretty tired so i may not have expressed everything perfectly.
