What is the most productive thing you have ever done?

I started thinking about this concept while brushing my teeth. The goal is to make one action that makes the highest impact in the smallest amount of time. The results of this action have to stay long after the action was completed. The most productive thing I think I’ve done was comment on a Chambers post six years ago. I was on a random post for a random karma farm and a woman posted something like “I’m a paycheck away from stopping to care about my kids. My first child is the result of a drug date-rape. My partner doesn’t make much money so I’m the one who supports the family. I’m really tired and I feel like I’m dying inside. My love for my children is dwindling every paycheck but I still love them. How do I stop feeling this way?” Something like that. Anyway, I typed out a super long comment that basically summarized into “I used to be in your shoes. I was a single mom of two kids and I felt the same way. You don’t have to worry about your feelings. It’s normal to feel that way because of your circumstance. I just want to offer some advice. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Do nice things for yourself like paint your nails or watch a movie while your kids play. Something like that. It doesn’t have to be expensive or take up a lot of time.” Next thing I know, I get a private message from the woman a few years later. She said something like “I wanted to contact you because I never forgot what you said. I stopped feeling that way and my relationship with my children improved a lot. I’m not struggling the way I was before and I make plenty of money now. I wanted to reach out to you because you said exactly what I needed to hear. My answer was right in front of me the whole time but I needed to hear it from outside of myself. I have a really good relationship with my partner and my kids now. I make sure to take care of myself. I also started a day spa so that other moms could take some time for themselves. Thank you for that advice. It changed my life.” That comment was probably less than 5 minutes of my time. I had no idea my random comment would have such a profound impact on someone. Now she’s bettering herself and the community around her. Pretty crazy how a small action can have a huge impact.
