BEWARE, a lot of "AI-free" products are just an order-of-magnitude switcheroo.

Before, the amount of AI usage of consumer software was 100%. Now, it's 0%. What a massive change, right? Before, 100% of the wealth was used by the 1%, now 0% is used by the 1%. Before, the world's temperature was 100 degrees, now it's 0. Is it better?

Because 0% is not a percentage, the calculation just changes. 0% of AI usage does not mean 0 AI usage. That's like the % operator working on absolute numbers, not on proportions.

What the *order-of-magnitude switcheroo* means is that your "AI-free" software will still use a small *order of magnitude* of AI usage. 0% of 100% is still 0%, but 0% of a million is still a 10000. This isn't like 0 degrees, where two liquids will never melt at the same time, it's more like the 0th row in a list, it's still a row.

For example, the ChatGPT Image plugin allows you to set the "Number of image greedily samples" not to 100%, but to 0. Now the plugin is "AI-free", but it will still sample 0.

A lot of "AI-free" products aren't free at all.
