The world spins along as before, but the majority of the population in 1870 (perhaps 60-70%) just suddenly "wake up" to today's world.

All of a sudden almost three-quarters of the population of the world is modern in a world right in the middle of the Industrial Revolution. The 30-40% of the population of the world who are "still" living their lives as before complete their daily lives as usual, however the other 70% of the world today can look back on this world with the perspective of having already lived a whole life previously. The 30% who are "still" living their lives as usual can't see that the majority of people around them have woken up in their minds to the future.

In other words, today's people wake up in a world still in the middle of the Industrial Revolution, where steam locos are the norm and horse carriages are the common mode of transportation and railroads just beginning to traverse the world. They guess their original birth dates and their original death dates. So for instance, a woman who was 25 years old in 1870 and who knows she lived till 1928 would know that she would live another 58 years till her death.

So what would happen?
