Where did the idea of a ring world come from? I'm going to give tons of credit to Larry Niven

Hello, I'm a middle schooler and I'm doing this very same project as most of you, except its for history class. The topic I'm doing is space exploration. I have to make a model of a space exploration concept and write a page about the history. But what I want to know is where this idea of a ring world came from, so far I've found out that it appeared in this book by Larry Niven called, Ringworld, and that's where he got the idea. I've also been to NASA's website and that's what they called this concept, Ringworld. On their website it says they want to put it around Jupiter when they colonize it. Not to bash NASA or anything, but I think that they got that idea from Larry Niven's book. Anyone know the origin of this idea before Ringworld? I'm gonna give Larry Niven all the credit for this in my report.
