What exact event made the Nazi party a household name in Germany?

To me it doesn’t make sense how the Nazi party rose to power, I understand how they rose to power, but it doesn’t make sense how they were able to do it. <br>From my understanding, the Nazi party was a party created in 1919, by ex soldiers from ww1, and although the charismatic Hitler did wonders for the Nazi party, he still wasn’t able to get elected into office. <br>Hitler decided to overthrow the government with a failed beer hall putsch, and was sent to prison for a mere nine months. <br>After being released from prison, his second attempt at taking power was successful, and the rest is history.
