First off I apologize for any formatting issues. It's kind of hard posting from r.nosleep.

Secondly I am from India, but have lived in the United States of America for the past ten years. My parents decided to visit and stay for a few months.

I decided to keep some things from them so they wouldn't worry. They have been here for a week, and I showed them around. They were amazed at the sights and sounds etc etc. When we got home that night, I asked "So, what did you think?"

They said it was amazing. I asked "So, where would you like to go next?"

They smiled and told me that anywhere would be fine, and that the country was just so...beautiful.

I laughed inwardly. They haven't seen the other side yet. The side I've hidden from them. I knew I couldn't avoid it forever, better to let them know now rather than later.

"Alright, but there is one thing you should know."

I got their attention, I could tell they sensed something was wrong.

"You know how I told you to keep your windows shut at night?"

They nodded, and I could tell they were starting to get nervous.

"You see, there are...people out there, and I don't want them to harm you."

They looked at each other, concern was written all over their face, but I could see a sliver of curiosity.

"I'm sure they're not all bad." my mom said.

I laughed. "I'm sure they're not. But we still need to be safe. I'm going to show you where to go if someone breaks in, and I'm not here. Also no walking outside after dark, and don't open the door if it isn't me."

They nodded, and I told them the safest places in the house. They still looked nervous, but I figured they'd be okay.

As we sat down to eat dinner, my mom turned to me. "So what exactly is happening?"

I sighed. "Look, I know you guys aren't used to this. India is a very different place from here, and I know you guys have never seen this. But just know that it is okay. It isn't all bad, and as long as you follow what I tell you, you guys will be fine."

My dad spoke up. "No, I think we need to know. What exactly is going on?"

I sighed, I knew I couldn't avoid it any longer.

"Alright, fine. But please don't tell anyone else, I don't want to risk it."

They nodded, and I started.

"I used to think that this was normal, until I talked to people from other countries. I found out this isn't normal, and that it doesn't happen anywhere else. I'm not sure what's going on, but this has been happening since I was a kid."

They nodded, and I continued.

"I think it's people, but I'm not sure. Sometimes I think I see limbs, and sometimes I'm not sure if it even has a body. But it can talk. Tries to get you to let it in."

My parents exchanged a terrified glance.

"One time I was in high school, and it came for me. It talked through my computer, told me it missed me, and that it was coming for me. I panicked, tried to get away, and I think it's the only reason I'm alive today."

I paused to take a breath.

"Sometimes it comes at random, and other times I think it's stalking. I've heard too many stories to think it's just me. My friends, classmates, everyone has these stories. It's...it's a part of life."

My parents were staring at me, white as ghosts. I knew they were scared, and I knew they didn't believe me. Or at least didn't want to.

"One time it impersonated my friend. Called me and pretended to be her, tried to get me to come outside. I hate using the word it, because that makes me think of a parasite, but it's all I have."

My parents were silent, and I knew that they were thinking about it. About what I had told them.

We lived in silence for a while, until they spoke up.

"We will be careful." My dad said.

I nodded. "Good. Just to be safe, one more thing."

Again they nodded, and I continued.

"If someone comes to the door, claiming to be me, calling for help, do not open the door and do not call the authorities. It's not actually me. Just stay inside and wait."

They nodded, a little more calm. They were handling it better than I thought they would. But then again, they had a while to get used to it.

We were silent the rest of the night. And when night actually fell, I could feel the tension. Eventually they went to bed, and I alone stayed up, on guard, just in case.

I don't know what's going on. I don't know what it is, or why it's doing this. But I do know one thing.

I will do anything to keep my parents safe.

And If it comes to that...I will do whatever it takes.
