Booby traps are not smart. They’re fucking stupid and immature

In every cartoon, there’s that one ‘genius’ kid that sets up booby traps all over his house to keep intruders out (but always seems to catch their friends and even parents instead). This always seems to have been underestimated by the intruder (usually an old man) who somehow gets killed by the magnitude of the trap only for them to turn into general annosance for the rest of the movie because it always seems to fail. What the fuck is this? Why is it okay and why do parents let their kids do this?
