Wake up, walk through the house, sit down at the kitchen table, stare at the wall.<br><br>I didn't see her at first, she was about 8 years younger than my mother and I could see the exhaustion in her face.<br><br>"You can see me, right? You poor child." she said.<br><br>I personalised the order for the meals I'd ordered. "My mum. You look just like her, who are you?"<br><br>"I'm you." she replied, "I'm desperately trying to communicate with you, but I've been trying for days."<br><br>I was exasperated, she'd been sat there for days, talking to me and I couldn't see it.<br><br>"What do you need to tell me?" I asked<br><br>"I need you to change." she replied, "I know what you think about yourself, that you are nothing. Nothing to anyone. But you are everything to everyone."<br><br>"Why should I listen? You're not real."<br><br>"If I'm not real, you don't have anything to lose do you?"<br><br>I gave her food and drink. She ate it, it did her no good. Every day I took her on a tour of the house. Every day she asked me the same questions, "how did you end up this way?"<br><br>"I don't know." I always replied.<br><br>"I need you to change." she always said, "I know what you think about yourself, that you are nothing. Nothing to anyone.
