The concept of two railroad stations, one for the living, one for the dead.

Some of the most famous cemeteries in Europe (like Paris and Vienna) are located outside the city proper. In order to get there, railroad companies were founded with the goal of providing cheap transportation to these cemeteries, as most people couldn't afford an expensive hearse.

For example, Paris had a large railroad station, Mortellerie, with connections to Paris' main stations. Vienna, during the ending of the 19th century, even had a connecting street car line (it was the first in Europe).

Sometimes, these lines were split into one station for the living and a separate station for the dead.

Opinions on these stations were mixed; with some believing the proximity of the two stations a necessary evil, and others believing that such proximity is sacrilegious.

Perhaps your world has a similar practice.
